From 16 to 19 June 2026, a delegation from the Ukrainian Institute for Plant Variety Examination (UIPVE), led by its Director Serhii MELNYK, paid a working visit to the Centre for the Testing of Agricultural Plant Varieties (COBORU, Republic of Poland).

The Ukrainian delegation comprised Svitlana Hryniv, Deputy Director of the UIPVE; Olga Stadnichenko, Assistant Director; Larysa Korol, Head of the Laboratory of Molecular and Genetic Analyses; Tetiana Dudka, Research Fellow in the Department of Research into Distinctness, Uniformity and Stability of Plant Varieties; and Vasyl Kuzko, Director of the Lviv Branch of the UIPVE.

During the visit, the Ukrainian experts familiarised themselves with the activities of COBORU’s central office and the work of the research stations in Zybiszów, Słup Wielki, Śrem and Chłonów; they also visited the chemical and technological laboratory, the Central Seed Store, the trial fields and the modern greenhouse complex. Particular attention was paid to the organisation of variety trials, post-registration studies of varieties and the use of modern research equipment.

At COBORU’s central office, presentations were given on the activities of both institutions, followed by discussions on the prospects for further cooperation. Representatives of the UIPVE presented the plant variety examination system in Ukraine, the Institute’s scientific developments and modern approaches to conducting variety qualification examinations.

The highlight of the visit was the signing of the ‘Action Plan on Plant Variety Examination and Protection between the Ukrainian Institute for Plant Variety Examination (UIPVE) and the Centre for the Testing of Agricultural Plant Varieties (COBORU) for 2026–2030’. The document provides for the development of scientific and technical cooperation, the exchange of expertise, the organisation of joint events and work placements, as well as the strengthening of partnership in the field of plant variety rights protection.

The UIPVE delegation also took part in the Kutnowska Hodowla Buraka Cukrowego (KHBC 2026) Field Days, where they familiarised themselves with the latest achievements in plant breeding and seed production.

The working visit marked an important step in strengthening cooperation between the UIPVE and COBORU, opening up new opportunities for the implementation of joint projects and the development of international partnerships in the field of variety testing and the protection of plant variety rights.
